3 Mothers Medicines Camps

3 Mothers Medicine Camps (3MMC) are innovative community wellness programs developed through the O_CHI Community-based participatory research project. This project, completed between 2018—2022 by Rainbow Health Coop, University of Victoria, and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, was supported by a grant from the Vancouver Foundation.

Our facilitators receive comprehensive training in trauma response and mitigation. Going beyond trauma-informed care, 3 Mothers Medicine Camps provide trauma-mitigating services. The program consists of four cross-linked programs tailored to different age groups:

  • All Gender Gentle Birthing – Fostering instinctual birth and supporting postnatal recovery.
  • Betwix'd Improv Puppet Troupe – Mentoring gender diverse youth aged 13-19
  • All Gender Vocal Practice – Offering ongoing support and resources for transgender adults.
  • Living Eldership Arts & Crafts – Nurturing community wisdom through service to the community

These tent-based camps occur from May to September aiming to provide "the missing middle of mental healthcare" per every 100,000 of the general population.
