Tau Membership is more than a subscription—it’s a lifetime invitation into a living community of practice, rooted in healing, learning, and collective transformation. Join once and belong for life: dues are just $1 a year, and all we ask in return is one hour of community service a month.
At the heart of membership is reciprocity. Members aren’t passive subscribers—they’re elders seeking purpose, youth exploring identity, practitioners refining their craft, and interns training through our Community Wellness Worker program. Everyone gives something and receives something back, and that circle only grows wider over a lifetime.
One goal ties our programs together: fusing community wellness practice with art into real, shared engagement—and along the way, creating living-wage supplementary income for members on low or fixed incomes, elders on pension included.
Common Thread, our arts-based community wellness program, carries this out through our puppet troupe—yes, puppets, and yes, they do real work, letting people explore hard things together (fraud, gender-based violence, diversity, reconciliation) without anyone baring their own story.
Alongside it runs our Community Wellness Worker (CWW) training, a multi-year, part-time path in hypnotherapy, Reiki, and arts-based, culturally grounded counselling taught alongside Indigenous healers and elders; interns can earn their way in through community service. Both programs run on intensive weekends—Friday evening through Sunday, once a month—so people traveling from the wider Island or further afield can join. Unlike a program that ends when the weekend does, Tau offers an ongoing home for integration—one you belong to for life.
A single hour of service a month looks different for everyone: interns work supported roles alongside Indigenous healers during ceremony and events; elders mentor and earn supplementary income doing it; practitioners build a network of peers; others host, welcome, or carry the puppets in from the van. Joining the monthly members meeting counts as well. All of it counts. All of it matters.
We’re also building a long-term home for this work at Manzer Commons, a family property in Sooke slowly becoming a shared community space for training, gatherings, a medicine garden, and Indigenous-led healing. It’s still taking shape, but it points to where this community is headed.
