Betwix’d

To be Betwixt is to exist between spaces. To walk astride two worlds. Just as young people must often fight to find their place in the world, trans and queer youth must fight doubly so against a system that does not yet fully understand or acknowledge the very nature of their being, while they themselves work to discover and define that nature. 

We frequently have different aspects of ourselves pitted against one another just as the different peoples that make up our communities are pushed into conflict with one another. But it is in this journey of self-discovery, this exploration of differing worlds that most only ever seen one side of, that is where our true power lies. As healers. As storytellers. As artists and magicians and caregivers. 

Those who are unafraid to be Betwixt are those who can overcome anything. 

To discover and define oneself while growing into a powerful, confident individual capable of bridging the gap between themselves and others, between conflicting pieces of our communities, between what is and what we want there to be, that is the goal of Betwixt. 

Join transgender artist and performer, Bria, who has a 10 year history of working in the trans community and over half a decade of experience working in theatre, alongside a collection of adult mentors, and in connection with a community of elders, and gather with us to build puppet avatars and create a youth-led show that tells the world just who 2SLGBTQ+ youth are and what they can accomplish. 

Participants can:

– Express yourself artistically in whatever way suits you best – visual arts, performance, puppet making, audio/video – whatever you want to do, we will receive and encourage!
– Overcome self-doubt and gain confidence and resilience
– Make friends who are 2SLGBTQ+ and build skills for collaboration
– Intergenerational mentorship and community building
