Community Puppet Theatre Project

There's something about a puppet that changes the conversation.

People seem more willing to laugh with them, listen to them, and even disagree with them. They create just enough distance that we can explore difficult topics without immediately putting up our defences.

Our first production will focus on seniors and explore topics like scams, fraud, trust and elder abuse.

We're still in the early stages, so we'll be creating the show as a group. We'll experiment, play, write, improvise, build characters and see where the process takes us.

Longer term, we'd love to create more productions exploring other challenging topics, and see how we can explore it with this format.

People who are curious.

People who enjoy collaborating.

People who don't mind trying something new.

People who can laugh when an idea flops, and get excited when one suddenly takes off 🙂

You don't have to have years of theatre experience, or puppetry experience.

We'll start by getting together twice in August 2026 to explore ideas, create characters, and play with puppets. If all goes well, we’ll begin rehearsals in September, with the aim of holding performances in the early spring of 2027.

While we're developing the show, participation will be volunteer.

Once we're performing, performers will be paid (currently expected to be around $200–300 per performance, depending on funding).

This project is just getting started, which means you have a chance to help shape it from the very beginning.
