Class Overview
You Grow in the Reiki You Practice

edTau Traditional Reiki continues to collaborate with the global Reiki community to fulfill Usui Sensei’s dream of all people recovering their innate ability to experience healing by sharing Reiki.

Tau Traditional Reiki provides two things not found in most other Reiki programs, the opportunity to practice and certification of those practice hours for our students or any other Reiki practitioner wanting to certify their hours providing Reiki to other people.

Tau Traditional Reiki is shared in two ways, through study (調査,  Chōsa) and practice. (練習, Renshū)  Renshū Reiki is the practice part of our training, called Reiki Shares by some in Western Reiki.

Tau Traditional Reiki begins with Takata Reiki, adds several of the traditions of Japanese Reiki recovered in the new century, and returns to Hayashi Sensei’s teaching style.

In Hayashi Sensei’s clinic, multiple interns provided Chiryō to one client at the same time. These interns also progressed through a multi-year course of study and Reiju, with each student progressing at their own pace as they demonstrated their capability to perceive different aspects of Chiryō, such as the perception of Byosen.

Tau Traditional Reiki follows this format set out by Hayashi Sensei.

Renshū Reiki is the practice part of our training, All Western or Japanese Reiki practitioners are welcome to join our Renshū Reiki sessions. You can join on a drop-in basis or as part of one of our classes. (Tau Saishū Reiki 採集, Tau Kasai Reiki , Tau sora Reiki , Tau Mizu Reiki , Tau Kaze Reiki , or Tau Tsuchi Reiki 地).

Drop-in passes can be purchased as singles, full season, or sets of ten.

What happens during a 90 minute Renshū session

Renshū is practiced with a minimum of three and a maximum of six practitioners per client, with four the preferred number. Each 90 minute session begins with 20 minutes of Saishū Reiki 採集 followed by three 20 minute treatment sessions (Chiryō). Clients receive a minimum of 20 minutes of treatment to a maximum of 60 minutes, depending on the number of students and clients.

Tau Reiki Wands and Certification

Tau Reiki wands are hand-made by Reiki practitioners following  traditional guidelines. Each wand is unique. We tell our students to think of them like an electric bike. At times you are charging them through your pedalling and braking, other times they are assisting you by adding power to get you over the next hill.

Students are gifted their first wand in our Tau Saishū Reiki course as part of the course materials and is used as the focus for their personal practice of Saishū Reiki. Wands are also used to track their practice hours with each dressed (completed) wand representing 21 hours of practice.

Wands are available to all pratitioners

Wands are also available for purchase by any practitioner of any school who wants to track certified Reiki practice without participating in our knowledge sharing. (調査, Study, Chōsa). All other aspects of wandwork for our students are followed.  All students and other practitioners participate in a recognition ceremony at the completion of their 21 hours of Renshū Reiki.

The Inevitability of Certification

Our school is located in British Columbia, and like many other Canadian provinces and US states, government is currently working on new regulations for all healthcare professions and occupations. In October 2022, the BC government introduced the Health Professions and Occupations Act with the intent of “making the most significant changes to oversight of regulated health professions in British Columbia’s history” (Adrian Dix, Minister of Health). Changes are coming to how Reiki is practiced in BC. We have the choice of how to respond to those changes, but not the choice of whether or not they happen.

The Importance of Certification

Mikao Usui showed us a vision of a world where the practice of Reiki is available to everyone. To make that vision a reality, Reiki practitioners need to be able to make a living by providing Reiki. We believe that the practice of Reiki as a complementary (palliative) treatment to other therapies, particularly in hospital and hospice settings is the most likely circumstance to create livelihood for Reiki practitioners. To access these spaces, established standards of training and associated certification are the criteria common to all other health professions and occupations.

Make a choice or have it chosen

Since Pliny the Elder wrote for the Romans, we have heard the meme, ‘to not bury one’s head in the sand’ (like an Ostrich) as a metaphor that it is useless and potentially damaging to ignore that which is inevitable.

Changes for regulations for health occupations is underway in BC. Each of us has to choose a path that incorporates this reality or deal with the outcome of ignoring it.

Any 3 Students Can Host Renshū Reiki Sessions

Our goal is to address this change to how we practice Reiki in BC as simple as possible by taking steady progressive steps toward be recognized as a ‘Health Occupation’. Reiki is learned by study and practice, and the Tau Reiki Wands are a practical and straight forward means of tracking and certifying anyone’s hours of Reiki practice.
