Usui trained Chujiro Hiyashi, who continued this work through his own school into the 1930’s when he completed Level 3, Shinpiden training with Hawayo Takata and Chiyoko Yamaguchi. In the 1980’s, in the final years of her life, Takata completed Level 3 training with 21 people, which launched Reiki as a global phenomena. The Yamaguchi family maintained a strong family practice of Reiki but did not train others until the turn of this century. This came about as a result of Reiki practitioners from the west travelling to Japan in search of the roots of Reiki, with Frank Arjuna Petter of special importance in this search. From this arose the school of Jikiden Reiki, the pre-eminent trainer of what is at times referred to as ‘Japanese Reiki’ to distinguish it from ‘western Reiki’.

Tau Traditional Reiki plants its roots in the common earth we all share with these four departed teachers who we refer to as the Sensei. And from those roots bring together the common set of practices of both western and Japanese Reiki taught in the traditional way, in person training that follows the three levels of open, hidden, and mystery.

What distingushes Tau Reiki training from other schools is our focus on including the hours of practice needed to meet today’s standards for Reiki practitioners (Level 2 and 20 hours of Reiki treatments) and teachers (Level 3 and 120 hours of treatment on 40 or more people).
