PALLIATIVE SKILLS INTERNSHIP
PALLIATIVE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Tau Program of Therapeutic Skills is for:
- Students in any healthcare occupation or profession seeking complementary skill development in the healing arts
- Working healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their skills and connect with others doing the same
- People over 60 looking to engage in community healing as a pathway to living with purpose
- Neuro/gender diverse or Two-Spirit people displaced in conventional learning systems
- Anyone wishing to connect with their ancestral heritage through energy healing practices
At Tau, we emphasize a unique approach to lifelong learning that values the learning experience over the speed of completion.
Our 6-term, part-time program integrates Therapeutic Touch, Therapeutic Trance, and the Therapeutic Arts, into an enhanced set of palliative skills.
The program is designed to fit the busy lives of working adults and students and can be completed by attending one day a month over a three-year period.
The program consists of 18 courses that are self-paced and self-directed, combining online resources and hands-on training at the Tau Wellness Centre in Sooke, BC.
The program is offered during Winter and Summer terms, with breaks in April and October.
Students are registered with the International Association of Medical and Dental Hypnotherapists (IMDHA) after their first term.
On successful completion, they are certified as Community Wellness Workers and eligible to register as Certified Hypnotherapists through IMDHA.
Therapeutic Touch is taught in as Traditional Reiki, contains the best of both Western and Japanese practices, and emphasizes continuous practice and collaboration among practitioners.
Therapeutic Arts focuses on counselling skills and the use of arts and crafts in cross-generational community wellness programs. Our arts wellness focus is working with puppets.
Therapeutic Trance focuses on Erichsonian practices using mutual trance at the primary client/practitioner interaction and IMDHA certification as registered hypnotherapist.
The Tau Centre for Therapeutic Trance, certified by IMDHA, is a social enterprise of the Our_Community Health Initiative Cooperative (OCHI), a not-for-profit organization.
Unique Approach to Lifelong Learning
At Tau, we emphasize a unique approach to lifelong learning that values the learning experience over the speed of completion.
Our 6-term, part-time program ‘Tau Therapeutic Skills Development’ integrates Therapeutic Touch, Therapeutic Arts, and Therapeutic Trance.
Tau training is designed to fit the busy lives of working adults and students.
Training is offered during Winter Term (November to March) and Summer Term (May to September), with breaks in April and October.
The program is self-paced and self-directed, combining online resources and hands-on training at the Tau Wellness Centre.
Certification and Professional Development
Students (Interns) are registered with the International Association of Medical and Dental Hypnotherapists (IMDHA) after their first term.
Upon successful completion of the program, they are certified as Community Wellness Workers
They are eligible to register as Certified Hypnotherapists through IMDHA. This certification opens doors for professional development and recognition in the field of therapeutic practices.
Working Progessionals can choose not to certify which reduces the course requirements for self-directed study.
Welcoming neuro/gender diverse and Two-Spirit people
Our program is designed to attract and support neuro/gender diverse, Two-Spirit community members, recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives they bring.
We set this in the understanding that anything described as a norm is little more than directed predictive consumerism.
We emphasize mutual trance management rather than traditional hypnosis, removing the power dynamic inherent in someone doing something to someone.
Tau are committed to relationships of mutual respect to enact the 10 Principles of the TRC.
Connecting with your ancestral heritage
Connecting with your ancestral heritage through Reiki and Druidry offers a profound journey into the wisdom of the past.
Reiki is the most widely practiced energy healing modality in the world today.
Grounded in ancient energy practices of Qigong, Reiki connects every person to these autochthonous forces in a unique way.
With its focus on energy healing, Reiki improves any individual’s to ability to tap into the universal life force, harmonizing their own energy with that of their ancestors.
This practice can bring a sense of continuity and connection, as the healing techniques passed down through generations are revived and honored.
Druidry, with its deep roots in nature and ancient Celtic traditions, is a useful path for those inside the Indigenous community, those outside of it, and especially those who travel in both.
Druidry fosters a spiritual relationship with the natural world and the spirits of the land and it is in this place all people find their deepest commonalities.
Druidry, like Indigenous ways of knowing, and Shinto (which underlies the practice of all Reiki) are personal spiritual wellness practices with no formal dogma.
It is in this space we reconcile all of the ancestoral medicines each of us carry inside of us.
For those of us with euro-dominant histories, Druidry is a reciprocal work we can do to trade healing knowledges ethically.
Both Reiki and Druidry arise from cultures that include reincarnation in their beliefs, our lives become more useful in all times- through continuing these practices in this life.
Together, inclusion of both practices creates a holistic path to understanding and integrating ancestral knowledge, promoting healing and spiritual growth that bridges the past and present.
